All Pupils will encounter the following experiences and outcomes during their two periods a week within the music department:
Pupils will learn Rhythm and Notation, beginning with a taster unit on instruments. This will include Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Kit, Keyboard and Tuned Percussion.
Pupils will continue and complete their taster unit on instruments, then take responsible decisions and select two instruments. Pupils will skill build on both instruments taking advantage of their two periods a week. Pupils will work towards solo performance to peers and ensemble performance as a class. (It should be noted that all music and ensemble work is chosen at the discretion of the classroom teacher from our large library of music and ensemble material.) Pupils will begin understanding music through the study of musical concepts.
Along with continued skill building on both chosen instruments with solo and ensemble performance, pupils will further their musical appreciation learning about “The Instruments of the Orchestra” and the early stages of composition.
Pupils will again continue to skill build on both chosen instruments with solo and ensemble performance. Pupils will further their musical appreciation learning about the musical culture from China and perform traditional Chinese ensemble, incorporating the school’s Chinese instrument – “Yang quin”
